Master Bedroom . . .
This is north window and wall.
My closet! I am fixing to check out the Container Store for closet organization ideas. Now this is fun! Organizing a closet! (Not sarcasm, I love organizing stuff!)
Wall our bed will be on, the living room is opposite.
South wall. David's room is on other side. I wanted to put our mexican pine armoir on this wall but I don't think it is going to happen. We were talking this evening that we may not be able to get through the small hallway and into the bedroom. It is huge and the angles in the hall are too tight. This makes me really sad. :-(.
Some pictures of the ceiling. Juanita will be so sad that the beadboard is hidden from view.
Another ceiling picture.
Lydia's Bedroom . . .
This is a picture from last week that I forgot! Lydia now has a hole in her floor where Kevin is getting ready to install our new tankless water heater.
This hot water heater will soon be history! And Lydia will be able to sleep safely in her room!
Kitchen . . .
Things got crazy in the kitchen this weekend! I finally decided to paint the cabinets. Sorry Mom and Jackie! You can say I told you so later if it doesn't work out!
I am painting them a mint green. I have spent almost 2 weeks researching different color combinations and the how-to's of kitchen cabinet painting. I love the yellow I painted the walls and I wanted to continue with the fiesta dishes theme. I really love all the bright colors in Mexican food restaurants and I want my kitchen to be bright and festive like that. What better way than using the colors of my dishes! I purchased everything oil based, even the primer for durability. Kevin picked up my deglosser but it is a little bitty bottle, I think I will be picking up some more. A blog I came across that has helped me a lot is Young House Love.
I ordered the hardware for the cabinets this evening. Pictures of the hardware can be found in last weeks blog.
Back to the kitchen craziness! There was so much small trim all over the cabinets that I wanted gone. I thought it looked tacky. After I had removed the doors and went back to fill all the holes with putty I started looking real close at the trim and the reason it was there. Some pieces left me clueless so I ripped them off and filled the nail holes. I had Troy and Kevin come in and tell whether it was a good idea to pull off the trim adjacent to the ceiling. They said go for it! Then I suggested pulling the styrofoam tile off the ceiling as well, and again they said, "go for it." See the results below! As I told Lydia, the decision to paint the cabinets opened a whole can of worms! (Which I had to explain, she thought I really opened a can of worms!)
Lydia was in charge of pulling all the styrofoam off the ceiling and this is where it landed! Her little fingers got so sore. She later cleaned it all up. She is a messy person, a trait she inherited from her dad!
The ceiling underneath the styrofoam was just a regular sheetrocked ceiling with a little texture! I wondered out loud why anyone would cover that up with the styrofoam. Kevin reminded me that the rest of the house had the same ceiling and he figured they were attempting to be consistent. Hey it gave Kevin and David a half inch more head room! He didn't find much humor in that!
I guess you can see what the next project is going to be. Kevin said, "you will have to sand the ceiling and there will be some tape and bedding to be done." I picked up on the "you" in his statement. I think he is so burned out that anything not on the list is something for somebody else to handle! By the way, those green dots are glue that was holding the styrofoam up.
A picture from another angle. You can see some of the styrofoam that Lydia couldn't reach.
Oh, and I was showing Kevin where some mice were obviously hiding in the ceiling and he decided that the trim around the door and molding adjacent to ceiling were useless so he just started ripping it off. Kitchen major redo just got added to the new look of the house.
Shot of the cabinets with no doors. Look at the bottom of the cabinet to the left compared to the one on the right. The left one has all the extra trim removed! I hadn't pulled it off the right side or the middle cabinet yet.
A lot of my fiesta will be stored in this cabinet. I am cutting out the center of the doors and replacing with chicken wire so you can see the dishes. Linda said my dishes would get dusty and that is a con. I got the chicken wire idea from a friend of mine, Paula Trammell. She had done all her cabinets that way and it looked really nice. Guess I will always be wiping my dishes off before using them from this cabinet. Below are some examples I found on the internet if you are curious.
Remember me complaining about all the formica and that it was even under the cabinets around the stovetop? Well, its gone! Notice that all the tacky trim is gone as well. That stuff was really bothering me and I needed it to be out of here, mission accomplished.
I removed all the blue painters tape from around the window and cabinets. It looked so nice, I had to get a picture to show it off. I don't know if Kevin will want to replace the trim around the window but if he doesn't I will be painting it bright white. I don't think I will be painting the window seal. It is real wood and it looks nice.
Lydia put a second coat on the refrigerator walls for me while I got started with the cabinets. She did a very nice job and wanted me to get a picture of them with her. She's so pretty! She is sitting in that corner because she can pick up on the neighbors wifi on her her phone. Sneaky . . .
All the drawers from the kitchen. I will be deglossing, priming and painting in the living room. Lydia removed all the handles off the drawers for me. She worked a lot this weekend!
Here are the cabinet doors. David began removing all the doors as I started filling the screw and nail holes with putty. He worked a lot this weekend as well because Kevin had him busy with the drywall before I arrived.
New hallway and David's Bedroom . . .
Updating you on the hallway and also thought I would show what David's room is looking like.
This is looking in from our bedroom into the small storage closet in the new hallway. I am so glad Kevin is putting this in for us (me).
I am standing in David's room and you can see through the hallway into the dining room on the right. On the left is his closet that is partially sheetrocked. The ladder is covering part of the doorway to the closet.
This the utility closet. The doorway will be the wall on the left. Below is a picture of what kind of doors Kevin will be installing for the utility closet and bathroom. I think it will look so good and match the look in the kitchen.
I am standing in David's closet and looking into his room. It houses all the tools right now.
This is looking at the utility closet from Lydia's room.
Outside the House . . .
I mentioned in an earlier post that my Aunt Juanita got busy digging in the front yard to find our rock footpath. I kept forgetting to get pictures until this weekend. Its not finished yet but she got us a good start on it. It looks a lot better in person. Looks kinda gray in these pictures.
This is looking at path from from porch door towards the driveway.
Looking from the driveway towards the porch door.
Looking from road to front porch. Thanks Juanita!
I just wanted to add a picture of this huge tree in the back of the house.
What's ahead . . .
Tape, bedding and texture will soon be completed in David's room. The plumber will be coming this next week to install the tankless hot water heater. After that is done, I am sure Kevin will start framing in Lydia's closet. While he is doing that, I hope I will painting our room a sage green color. David will probably be painting his new wall a blue but not like the bright blue in Lydia's room. More of a dark blue. He wants to add a MLB logo to the wall as well.
That will be followed by the backyard fence or the flooring in the kid's rooms. The fence may need to come first so no one will have to babysit Howdy and Maddie after we move.
After Kevin is finished using the living room and dining room to store materials and tools in, I will be prepping those for staining followed by the actual staining. Then on to the same for our bedroom.
Somewhere in all that we will buying our new high efficiency, stackable washer and dryer. Whoot! Whoot! I can hardly wait!
It's nice to see the to-do list shrinking, I know Kevin is liking it!
