Week 3 . . .

Now we are at the end of week 3! Progress is beginning to take shape!

Master Bedroom . . .
Kevin had already began to close up shop when I took the pictures but you can still get an idea of what is happening, especially when you see pictures of the front porch.

This is the east window of our bedroom. We have totally changed our idea about the location of the closet. At first we changed from the wall to the right of the window to the wall to the left. Kevin came up with the idea of having two seperate closests and Juanita threw in that we should have a window seat with storage. Great Idea . . . not so much, we measured our bed and nightstands and there was no way it would all fit in the room. Plan C-same idea of seperate closets with window seat but we will be putting them on this east wall. Now the furniture will fit and we won't have to downsize to a queen!

Kevin moved the door for me so know you can see the new window (not really new, it came off front porch).

This is the north wall facing the road. Kevin installed double windows. We did this together on Saturday and it was very frustrating. We went home knowing the windows were not even and I just thought we were going to live with it. I guess after sleeping on it and calming down a bit, Kevin decided we needed to fix the windows. With the help of his mom, we got it done. Thank goodness, that would have always bothered me. Kevin also had issues framing this wall. After it was all completed, there were a couple of places that were not flush and the sheetrock would have looked horrible when completed. Thank goodness Kevin is as much a perfectionist as I am. He had to take down all the framing above and to the left of the window and redo it. Much easier said than done. It's perfect now.

This is the wall the bed will go on (originally a big panelled closet was there). We aren't too excited about this being the location for the bed since the living room is on the other side of the wall. Kevin put up some sound proofing sheetrock. Let's hope it works!

Just another shot of the corner where my closet will be. Notice those little pieces of wood on the wall. Those were what caused the framing not to flush on the north wall. If you remove some of them, you have to remove all of them, Kevin is learning by trial and error!

This is the south wall of our bedroom and doorway that looks into David's room right now. David's room is the official workroom right now. Our armoir that is currently used as an entertainment center will be sitting on this wall in lieu of us getting a dresser. Kevin wanted us to get rid of it but that is one of sentimental pieces of furniture and I am not ready for that yet.
Besides it is mexican pine like our bed and nightstands so it all matches.

This picture and the next is the hardwood floor in our bedroom. Kevin replaced all the bad pieces with flooring from David's room that was going to be covered anyway. Then he sanding them. They are slightly darker than hardwood in living room and dining room but once we get them stained, they will all look great.

Front Porch. . .
If you don't remember what this looked liked, you may need to go back to the beginning. We are so happy to see this enclosed porch become open again! Troy suggested to Kevin that he use the good storm windows on the front porch to replace the windows on the front of the house which includes our bedroom, the living room and we we will have one leftover to replace the window in the dining room!

The windows that filled the hole on the front porch are now our new bedroom windows! There is so much more light in that room now, it no longer looks like a dungeon and Kevin did awesome work for a dude who has never done this before. Thank goodness he pays attention when watching HGTV and DIY! We had pizza delivered on Saturday from Mr. Jim's and the pizza guy stepped through that open space to the left instead of using door. We are so happy to get pizza from W'ford Mr. Jim's now, the MW store is too greasy and they don't cut up their lettuce right!

The hole on the end of the porch also had double windows of which one is now our east facing window in the bedroom. We were told that there is a flagstone path leading from the front porch to the driveway and road. My aunt Juanita really wants to get out there with a hoe to find them!

Just another picture of the hole in the porch and new window in our bedroom.

Lydia's Room . . .
Lydia wanted to pick the colors for her room and paint it herself. In order to preserve our wonderfully close mother-daughter relationship, I recruited Grandma Poer to come help her. They worked hard and got it done in one day. The shade of blue looks different in the pictures but believe me, it is bright! And it is so Lydia!

This her south and east wall.

This is the north wall; David's room is on the other side.

This is the wall the closet will be on. Remember from earlier posts that we will be getting a tankless hot water heater because we definitely don't want this one is the same room with Lydia, way to dangerous.

Just another picture of the south and west wall.

Living Room . . .
After thinking about it for at least the last 3 weeks, Kevin and I decided on the colors for the living room and dining room. We have always liked yellow or leathery colors so we finally decided to go that direction. I also wanted to make sure the colors we decided on didn't clash with my plans for the kitchen which are Fiesta yellow and mint. (Fiesta is the dishes I collect, both vintage and contemporary.) So, after asking the opinions of others, we settled on Home Depot's Bright Copper for the top and Medieval Gold for the bottom (we will be installing a chair rail later). Now when I look at that bottom color, I will always be reminded of my CTL cohorts, Mr. D, Terri, Heath, Keri and Amy!

I spent most of today taping and cutting in the walls. This and the next 3 pictures just show the four walls. Really boring to all except me because I sweat a lot doing this!

Lantana, Photography by Lydia . . .
This made the cut for the blog because these huge lantana bushes are in the front yard and Lydia paused her working in the house to take some pics!

Check out the grasshopper! I'm feeling a BETA entry coming on!

Don't miss the grasshopper butt!

Lydia's favorite picture!
